Hello I am looking a log file analytic tool that would parse the log files on the server and tell me the following:

1. when a particular website is updated
2. owner of the website or at least who last updated the website

do you think weblog expert can be used to get the above details?

It is unlikely the WebLog Expert could be used to create such reports.

Site updates/uploads are usually performed via FTP/SFTP/FTPS. However, WebLog Expert cannot analyze FTP logs, it supports web logs only.

If your site is updated via web-based tools and are logged in web logs, it could be possible to analyze them with WebLog Expert, but I'm not sure that the program will be able to show user that updated the site (it depends on how the site management works) and the program won't be able to show a table with site name and last update time as such tables aren't supported now.

Thanks Michael for the reply. The general scenario is the web authors of a website has used some sort of web based tool to update the website. Does weblog expert help in that case?

Log files may contain information on authenticated users, while it depends on how authentication in the update tool works as well as on the server settings. You can try WebLog Expert with your log files and check if information on users is shown in the Visitors > Authenticated Users report.

If it is indeed shown, you can use this report as well as the Visitors > Requests of Users report. You can also create custom tables in Options > Report > Tables, e.g. you can create a list of virtual domains grouped by users. However, the program cannot show last request time in these tables. It can only detailed list of last requests in dynamic HTML reports in the Enterprise edition, but it requires manual lookup for each user or another condition.
