Difference between "Total Page Views" in Summary versus "Hits" in Pages

What is the difference for "Total Page Views" in Summary versus "Hits" in Pages? The two numbers are always different. I read in a previous post by Official Rep Michael from 2 years ago that the "number of hits shown in the Pages report includes only hits (requests) for pages" and "so can use it as number of page views."
