Can I generate stats for the number of clicks of a particular link on a page, if it's external to my site?

I'm being asked to provide stats on how often a particular link (which is external to my site) on a given web page has been clicked on by a user. Does WebLog Expert provide that information, and if so, could you direct me to where in the documentation it describes how to generate those types of stats? Thanks.

Track external links.

Hi,

There's a way to track clicked links on my intranet ? e.g my website www.localintranet.com contains an external link : www.external.com and i want to track the visitors and the hits related to www.external.com

Thanks,

Thank you Michael. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. In surfing around for an answer, it seemed like my only viable options were the redirect script you mentioned, or writing an (onclick) event type of script, to increment a count. Thanks again!

When a user clicks and external link on your site, this click isn’t logged on your server as the visitor just goes to external site without requesting any data from your one, so it's not possible to get information on such clicks using WebLog Expert.

However, you can track such clicks by creating a special redirect script. You need to specify it instead of the external links like /redirect.php?http://www.externalsite.com. In this case requests for this script will be logged so you'll be able to find information on links clicked.

You will be able to track such links using the "Access Statistics > Pages and Queries" report.
